Some of Leicestershire’s biggest names in sport joined together to promote a healthy lifestyle this week, as Leicester Market hosted the first-ever Healthy Living Day event.
Held at Market Square on Tuesday 18th February, Healthy Living Day provided helpful information and activities, which allowed people the opportunity to find out how to make healthy changes to their lifestyle, either through eating, stopping smoking or participating in regular exercise.
Leicester Stop Smoking Service were on hand to provide tips to people looking to quit smoking for good, whilst promoting the ‘Balls to Stop’ campaign which is being backed by seven high-profile athletes from across the region.
Many of those athletes attended the event to show support and get involved in activities on offer, including boxing star Rendall Munroe, Leicestershire County Cricket Club’s one-day captain Josh Cobb and Leicester Riders forward Jamell Anderson.
Anderson was joined by Riders team-mates Jay Couisnard, Rashad Hassan, Anthony Downing and Harrison Gamble, whilst Leicester Hockey Club defender Josie Inverdale also lent her support to the day in addition to getting people involved in hockey.
Leicester Riders community coaches established a small-sized basketball court in the square, which alongside hockey, provided children enjoying their half-term break with plenty of entertainment and exercise.
Accompanying the advice and activities on offer, Leicester Market’s Adam Piotrowski delivered an extensive cookery demonstration, which instructed shoppers how to make a delicious and healthy beetroot falafel before handing out free samples.
